Government continues to muzzle the free press
RCPL deplores the government’s ongoing insistence of silencing free media outlets. This week, the government refused to reverse the court order to shut down one Lebanon’s main television and radio station (Murr Television and Radio Mont-Liban), forcefully and viloently closed last year on september 4th 2002.
Milhem Karam, chairman of Lebanon's Journalist Association, denounced the use of the judicial system to "muzzle freedoms, break pens and cut off tongues.

The Lebanese government authorities are considering to press charges against An Nahar for an editorial letter address to God. Islamic fundamentalist consider such an action blasphemy.
RCPL requests that Lebanese authorities review their treatment of various media issues, including media censorship, media ownership concentration and legal statutes. The events of the past month mark a significant improvement in the normalization of relations between Syria and Lebanon based on equal partners. First. the Lebanese armed forces have deployed through out South Lebanon, which is critical to maintain security in the area. Also, Syrian forces withdrew from certain regions of Northern Lebanon, in accordance with the Taef accord. While the withdrawal is 11 years behind schedule, RCPL hopes that Lebanon regains its full sovereignty, and leverages its relationship with Syria to disarm all non-governmental groups in Lebanon.

RCPL encourages the Lebanese government to empower the role of women in Lebanon by taking measures that mirror the actions of the Jordanian government, which has reserved seats in Parliament for women, and has amended citizenship laws to allow women married to non-Jordanians to pass on their Jordanian nationality to their children. RCPL recommends that Lebanon empowers the role of women by taking similar actions.
