Panel discussion leads all parties to agree on the need to help Lebanon

On Sunday June 13, 2004, RCPL convened 9 candidates from 5 Canadian political parties in the Canadian June 28 Federal elections. The parties presented their candidates, party platform and position to help improve democracy and human rights in Lebanon. Interestingly, all the parties agreed that Lebanon needs more help. The common positions of the parties included:

-

Denouncing the abuse of human rights in Lebanon

-

Denouncing the press censorship and harassment

-

Recognizing the need to push for the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 520 as a means to help Lebanon become a more independent and sovereign state

These positions are consistent with the official position of the Government of Canada. We feel it is important to make sure that such positions are held by the parties in other to maintain an objective and constructive policy towards Lebanon.
